Dr. Cain-Oliver has over 25 years of experience working with clients in a variety of capacities and throughout a wide age span. Dr. Cain-Oliver began her career working on a psychiatric unit of a community-based hospital. She then worked for over 12 years in the public school setting as a school psychologist. It was during that time that Dr. Cain-Oliver began working in private practice. After starting a family, Dr. Cain-Oliver left the school system full time to develop her own private practice in the Powhatan community. She also did consulting work with area nursing homes, providing psychological services as well as psychological testing for neighboring school districts. While building her practice, Dr. Cain-Oliver taught as an adjunct instructor at Longwood University.

For the past twenty years, Dr. Cain-Oliver has worked primarily in her private practice. She treats a number of school age children and has built a reputation as working closely with the school system. Dr. Cain-Oliver also sees adults of all ages as well as couples and families.

As a result of her extensive training in the school setting, Dr. Cain-Oliver has a wealth of experience treating childhood disorders including Attention Deficit Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, and Childhood Autism as well as mood and anxiety disorders affecting all ages.

Dr. Cain-Oliver specializes in working with families affected by the complexities of addiction and divorce. Approximately 5 years ago, she began doing co-parenting with couples and reunification work with high conflict families of divorce.

Most recently, Dr. Cain-Oliver began a Caregiver Support Group which meets at Powhatan United Methodist Church. The mission of the group is to provide education and emotional support to individuals who fulfill a caregiving role. This group is open to all interested persons at no charge.
